JEE Main 2024: Is NCERT reliable?

NCERT textbooks are crucial for JEE Main preparation, offering comprehensive coverage, easy-to-understand content, and improving problem-solving skills. Ramesh Batlish, Managing Partner at FIITJEE, stresses the importance of NCERT in Physics and Chemistry, advising students to focus on lab-based experiments and previous years’ questions for effective preparation.

On January 20, the National Testing Agency released the JEE Main 2024 Admit Card for the B.Arch and B.Planning programmes. According to the schedule, the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is scheduled to take place nationwide on January 24 for B.Arch. & B. Planning (Paper 2A & Paper 2B), and on January 27, 29, 30, 31, and February 01, 2024, for B.E./B.Tech.(Paper 1).

NCERT textbooks play a crucial role in JEE Main preparation, particularly in establishing a solid groundwork for the fundamental concepts of Physics and Chemistry. Here’s a breakdown of why they are crucial:

Importance of NCERT Textbooks in JEE Main 2024

Complete Syllabus Coverage: NCERT textbooks cover all the important concepts tested in JEE Main, including mechanics, electromagnetism, organic chemistry, calculus, and coordinate geometry.

Easy-to-Understand: NCERT textbooks are praised for their simple and straightforward explanations of complex topics. They use clear language and diagrams to ensure even students unfamiliar with the subjects can comprehend the material.

Improves Problem-Solving Skills: The NCERT textbooks provide a range of practice problems at the end of each chapter, aiming to assess your grasp of the concepts and improve your ability to solve problems.

Solid Foundation for Advanced Topics: The concepts in NCERT textbooks are crucial for understanding more advanced JEE Main topics. For instance, a sound understanding of mechanics from NCERT lays the groundwork for solving problems in kinematics, dynamics, and gravitation.

Accessibility: NCERT textbooks are cost-effective and widely available both in physical stores and online. This accessibility makes them an excellent choice for students on a budget or those without access to pricey coaching materials.

As the JEE Main 2024 January Session is approaching, Ramesh Batlish, Managing Partner at FIITJEE and Head of FIITJEE Noida, discusses the importance of NCERT textbooks when it comes to preparing for Physics and Chemistry in JEE Main Examination.

He said, “Students must be aware that NCERT is very important, especially in the context of Physics and Chemistry for JEE Main. This is because most of the questions, which are fact-based and experimental, are generally found in NCERT. In contrast, the JEE Advanced exam tends to be more numerical and problem-based. However, in JEE Main, certain theory-based questions are asked directly from the NCERT textbooks.”

“Therefore, my advice to students is, when preparing for your board and pre-board exams, go through the important notes from NCERT. The exemplars are also very important. Additionally, referring to previous years’ board questions could be helpful. If you feel uncertain about the types of questions generally asked in NCERT and CBSE Board, especially if you are a first-timer, consulting previous years’ questions for both JEE Main and your board exams can help you understand which chapters are given more emphasis.” he further added.

Concluding his thoughts, he emphasized, “My advice to students is to carefully read the lab-based experiments and notes because you may encounter some direct questions in JEE Main that are derived from your NCERT textbooks.”
